Not enough power

I have a geforce 7900 gs and when my machine starts I get a message that the nvidia tool has detected that it's not getting enough power, and is automaticaly lowering its settings. Still runs great, its not a problem, but this also means that I can't use the ntune utility to overclock my video card. So heres a crazy scheme... Could I just plug in a mullox connector from another power supply? Thats how I used a non standard dvd-rom drive with an xbox, and that worked. Anyone know if this is possible? If no one knows, I'll try it.
 
have you plugged in the pci-e molex connector on the back of the card? please check that as that might be the cause of the problem or you power supply might be under rated (for example, the requirement is 500 and your power supply is 200)

Take note that the pci-e molex is different than the connector for the dvd-roms or ide hard drives.
 
Yes! Indeed that was the problem! the little black 6-pin connector! My previous video cards never required this, thanks so much for your post!
