not seeing my 500 GB

I just put together my new build, and the bios isnt recognizing the full 500 GB on my seagate. Im running it SATA. Its an ASUS P5Qc and it has the latest bios so im not sure what the problem is.

137 Gb which is from what I hear, the norm.

Surprisingly enough, your error is actually common:

Seagate Technology - SATA Troubleshooter - 137 GB Capacity Issues

1. Load your default BIOS settings. Save then exit.
Next, install your SATA controller driver that might have come with your motherboard.

2. If problem persists you might have to use Seatools.

I looked at the MS help page and they said it only had that problem with XP versions that did not have SP1. I tried to run the hotfix that they had and it said that i had a newer version than what I had downloaded. I AM running SP3. Why would SP3 not support the latest atapi ver.? could this be the problem?

I believe SP3 should support it.

After roaming around online trying to find an answer, i believe your best bet is to reset your BIOS settings and install your latest Motherboard and Hard Drive drivers. Unless you've done so already?

I think I have figured out the problem, however, I am missing a few things, to fix it. The hard drive that I am using needs AHCP formatting to access all of the Hard drive space. I tried switching the formatting over in the BIOS settings, and it made my hard drive unreadable. So I swithced it back, and it was fine. The version of XP that I have doesnt come with SP1 which is also necessary to access hard drives over 137 GB, so when I try to boot from CD when the BIOS recognizes the HDD as ACHP it says that there is an error, and doesnt load. So I am thinking that if I had an XP ver. with SP1 already on it. I would be able to load windows over again, which would re-format my HDD but it wouldnt be a huge problem since a new build anyway. What do you think?

You might want to see what options are available for your hdd's in bios. I had to select LARGE to make mine detect w/out freezing.

Try what Matt wrote and install a Windows with SP2 if you can?

so I learned how to slipstream an XP CD with SP3, I think its going to work pretty well.
