When I start my presario the Compaq screen comes up followed by an error stating os not found any suggestions on how to fix this?
Looks like the bootsector has been damaged. You could try to boot from winxp cd and choose recovery console. If Windows has been installed on the primary partition (which is so in most cases), then enter the command fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0. You could also try to change the 0 into a 1 if the 0 is not accepted. The other thing that you could do is entering the command fixboot C:.
