According to Joystiq Sony's upcoming Playstation 3 may be close to $750 (US). Um, yeah... In a radio interview with Générations Europe 1 yesterday, George Fornay -- president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe -- let a little something slip: the PlayStation 3 will cost between €499 and €599. That's somewhere between $613 to $736 in American dollars! He was sure to point out that while this might sound like a lot of money for a game system, it was in fact cheap for a Blu-ray compatible playback system. Yay? And here, I thought the Xbox360 was asking a bit much. If consoles start costing this much, I don't think you're going to see them take over gaming like some folks seem to envision.
this probably won't be much of a problem after reading all the horror stories of how hard some people took the shaft buying the xbox 360
Hey if Sony can actually make the console available I won't be complaining. MS tried so hard to get the horse out of the gate well before Sony they made a billion people angry who couldn't get their hands on one. And yeah that's really steep for a console but Blueray is the future so it's still a whole lot cheaper than blowing between $1200 to $1800 on a one trick pony BlueRay player.
Fornay's comments are not an indication of PS3 pricing - Sony The idea that Fornay's mention of 499 to 599 Euro price ranges was an indication of the PS3's price point is "a mistranslation or misunderstanding of the discussion, which was actually focused on the relative value of PS3 as a Bluray Disc player," according to SCEE corporate communications director Nick Sharples.
