Rackmount Chassis and PSU questions

I'm in the midst of building a system and have come across a question I can't seem to anwser.

In short, I'm going to be building a desktop system in a rackmount chassis for use on tour. I've finalized everything but the PSU. I've noticed that for rackmount chassis the options for PSU's are limited - and expensive!

I'll need at minimum 500W. I'm also assembling information for a future graphics rig that will need over 800W.

My question is: Will a standard PSU fit in a 3U rackmount chassis or will I need to purchase a server specific PSU? The chassis in question can be seen here: Newegg.com - iStarUSA Storm Series D-300AL Black Aluminum 3U Rackmount Case 300W 4 External 5.25" Drive Bays - Server Chassis

Since this is a desktop system for audio/video applications I don't need a server specific PSU, and the included PSU is only 300W. I can't seem to find any information on PSU sizes so short of purchasing a standard PSU and seeing if it fits I'm stuck!

Well, I don't know if a standard ATX PSU will definitely fit in that PSU without more having exact measurements of the chassis. But I did find the part number on the preinstalled PSU, and the dimensions are as follows:

L 180 x W 117 x H86 mm

Those don't meet ATX specs exactly. That doesn't necessarily mean that an ATX PSU won't fit, but that I don't really know for sure. :confused: In your shoes, I'd consider emailing iStar's support. Perhaps they can tell you if that chassis supports ATX PSUs or not.
 
Thanks for the reply. After some heavy searching I believe I've find the anwser. It looks like the only PSU's that will work in this rackmount are iStar's brands, and they only make a compatible PSU up to 460W. It also lacks many of the common power connectors for SLI or Sata. Bummer, that was one of the better looking rackmount cases I've seen.

None the less I've discovered that a standard ATX PSU should fit in just about any 4U model chassis they make, so I guess thats the way I'll go.

If you go to DNUK you'll see they have loads of rackmount chassis built to your specification. My dad has bought a bit from them.
