I just got a this computer:
i5 on MSI H61M-P31/W8 Motherboard
and 4GB DDR3 Memory.
Decided to add 8GB PC3 10600 IBM SDRAM
and it still only sees 4GB. I swapped modules but nothing changes.
Im running on windows 7 64bit
if i remove old 4GB and start on new 8GB it doesnt start at all.
Keep rebooting and i cant get into setup.
Now my question:
is the new 8GB module faulty or is there something i do wrong?
Thanks

Are All the Ram sticks the same ? (PC310600) You Might have to reset the Bio's, Pull the Bio's battery out for 10 minutes, then replace and see if it picks up all 8 gigs of ram.

quote from motherboard manual
Important
* In Dual-Channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules of the same
type and density in different channel DIMM slots.
* To enable successful system boot-up, always insert the memory modules into
the DIMM1 first.

...

Make sure that all the connectors are connected to proper ATX power supplies to
ensure stable operation of the mainboard.

after checking, is any chance of EMI locally, if so change Spread Spectrum to reduce EMI

check those & what BIOS are you running ? presumably 3.5
