RAM problems

confused :confused: In my computer, I have 208 RAM, and there never seems to be availbale phisical memory, even when I close everything (including ctrl+alt+del, close everything exept Explorer an systray) I only get like, 60 meg's of free memory, and it says I have 90%free....(90% of 208 is not 60, its 187.2)....so is there anything I could do to free up this RAM?? :D
 
Are things feeling slow?
Also, what OS are you using?
There are different programs (RAMpage, FreeRAM, etc.), but in my experience, gaming suffered. UT was choppy with this running, but that could've been when I was using a Voodoo 4.
 
Oh, by the way, you don't need to put the javascript stuff to insert a smilie ;)
 
I don't realy know if the gmes are playing slower than they should, 'cause, I've had this problem for quite some time...and I'm running Win98...('cause ME sucked)...but I thhink I'll try some ram boosting programs...
 
Now I think I have an answer for you: 9x doesn't manage memory as well as NT OS's. The NT OS's do need more, but they handle it much more efficiently. I typically leave my systems on for a week before a reboot, depending on how much I'm fooling around with it. Those ramboosting programs will be your ticket to better ram usage, but not the end all, be all. ;)
 
Easier eqaution

I will make it easy for you. In 98 you have a performance option. Just go into it like your looking at your version number and click performance. Change your virtual memory to as high as it will allow you (example 100 try 200) than apply and restart. Everyone has these problems its actually quite a simple thing to accomplish. Well goodluck:D
 
one more thing

I sugest on your next buy to get a WIN2k or NT because it is the easiest to work with and more stable.:cool:
 
I think that you should try a new OS, Like Win 2000 or Not preferably XP they have better memory management programs and they try to use minimal resoources. Or just download a memory managemnt program, well if that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you.

Thanx for all the answers, I got RamBooster, an it solved my problem in 98, but now I'm assembling a new system , an' I'm putting WinXP pro on it...:)
