My computer is infected with spyware.

If I do a freash re-install/repair of win. xp, will all my documents/programs/software stay intact, and will the registry change. Also, whats the difference between a fresh re-install and repair

    1. Fresh Install: Format the whole drive and install windows. This will wipe out all the data from your computer..

    2. Repair: You know the problem, you type the command and fix the problem.

    3. Overwrite: Overwrite the windows. You get this feature when you select the fresh install option and computer detects the previous windows and asks you to choose for overwrite. Remember: Its possible to do it from Home to pro edition but from Pro to home, it will ask you to format. Also depends on the Service Packs....(There are some issues in this function, which I m not sure at the moment what are those.)

    1. Download Adaware SE Personal and run a spyware scan.
    2. Remove your user account from the administrator's group

Why not just get rid of the spyware,That will take care of your problem.
You probabaly have some registry problems as well. I would suggest that you get these programs and run them. Adaware, spybot and get this cleaner program called Ultra Win cleaner... Also try Tune up 2006 ... This should take care of your problem, If not you can try a system Restore, This will restore you computer to an earlier date. But you can only go back up 5 to 7 days.

Couldn't u just back up your documents that need saving? Burn 'em on a CD or something or copy/paste onto a usb flash drive? And then just reinstall all your software. But the others' suggestion of fixing the problem is probably preferable lol. I just think simply reinstalling might be less annoying/painful.

I can't just get rid of the spyware, it just keeps coming back
I've used the best spyware scans, and have no luck on actually getting rid of the spyware
My interent is always acting up, and I can't install programs/software anymore
I have a ton of software installed, so re-installing everything would be a bitch, I guess I'll do a repair is see what happens, I do have another hd, and will of course clone my current hd just in case

What are you using ? What is the name of the one's that keep coming back ?
How long has this be going on ? If they keep coming back that means they are in your REG.. Have you tried a REG ,,Cleaner ? Also try this (Trojan remover)
This program sure has helped me out in the past.
