I am looking for the best way to record TV to a hard drive. I would like it to be cheap, and 1080p, but I can cope with less on those two options. I want to record HBO, comedy central, etc. and I believe these options are encrypted to the point that I am unable to record these, or I will be unable to do so in the near future with a tv tuner card.

Just to clear up any potential confusion, I plan to pay for the cable that I will record, but I want to be able to record it to a hard drive which I can manipulate, not a proprietary TiVo box that I have to rent.

    Thanks for any help.

I know that one way to record and save a show or movie is to use special screen recording software. You can use any free or paid tools you find on the internet to do this. For example, the free one that I used is Movavi Screen Recorder. It seems to me that you can easily figure out how to use it, right?
