I have recently brought a sapphire hd6770. I have this mobo : asus p5ld2-vm, intel pentium dual core d@3ghz and 2gb ddr2 (psu : 500w/no name).
With my old 7900gs, the system boots up fine. However, when i connect my gd6770, i must wait ~5mins before post screen pops up (i hear the fans, hdds etc, but no signal to the monitor). After that, everything goes fine (i did stress tests to load gpu/ram etc and the video card is stable with no restarts, nor hard heating). So, technically, the power source can sustain the power drain from the video card. I cannot, anyway, explain the "wait time" before the bios boots up the system.
