Slower than expected

Hello, new here.
Around 4 month ago, i built together my new pc after a lot of deciding, but it seems to be a lot slower than i thought it would be, some games/activities it destroys but others it kinda sucks.
The specs look like this...

Motherboard - Gigabyte Z68A-D3 Z68
Cpu - Core i5 2500K
Memory - HyperX Blu 1333Mhz (2x4gb)
Graphics - HD6870 Oc hawk, Crossfired
HDD - Barracuda 500gb 6gb/s
PSU - Coolermaster Gx650w 80+

The performance in games seems slower than i beleive it should, just wondered if i have a bottleneck anywhere, thankyou. :D
 
Well for gaming you really should have 1600Mhz, make sure that you have all the latest drivers and I'd check the firmware too. Also make sure that you are keeping regular maintenance on your rig. Also do you have anything OC'd?
 
Motherboard has newest bios, and i was wondering about the memory yeah, and only a minor on the cpu, to 3.7ghz. you think 1600 would be a world better?
 
Ok, just make sure though that your GPU is also up to date. I usually don't like to recommend AMD for GPU's just because their drivers are no where near as good as Nvidia's. You would see noticeable difference with the switch of RAM. With the 2500k the 3.7GHz is just the turbo on it, you should try overclocking more. Though if you do that you'll need an aftermarket CPU cooler. Also what kind of games are you playing, and which ones are giving you trouble.
 
I have a corsair H60 cooler on it, and turbo is off i just didnt want to risk higher, i thought the 6870's in crossfire was good enough when i got it, after seeing reviews on them. i have been playing a lot of games, but other people with near enough the same setup get better performance by a far shot. im using the 11.11c performance drivers and cap 2 for my cards and i still get trouble in my games, mainly saints row 3 and skyrim, on windows 7 too if that helps
 
Is Windows 7 64-bit? Also the 6870 isn't a bad card, and it shouldn't have a problem running those games while crossfired.
 
Yep, 64 bit, and i know :( I'm not too sure where the problem is, this setup should be killing these games
 
Yea I mean, try the new RAM 1600MHz is best for gaming. Then just like defrag, run your choice of computer utilities just to make sure that there isn't anything that would be slowing down your CPU output.
 
You dont think this processor is killing any performance from the cards do you? its only 3.3 stock and im not too good with overclocking, but my games stutter sometimes and i read cpu can cause it sometimes
 
The 2500k is the ideal gaming CPU, I can guarantee that's not the problem. The only other thing I can think of is that your PSU isn't powerful enough. It could be to much of a bottleneck.
