    Hey all,

I got a laptop for free and it works fine, but it has no life to the battery at all. If i unplug the power cord, within 5 minutes it want to hibernate. At first I thought it was either the battery or the power source. If it were the power source, than I wouldn't even be able to turn it on at all....do I have that right. Should be fine if I get a new battery, right??

    Thanks ahead of time

    -Cheers

    Welcome to HWF :)

That behavior is caused by a dead battery. This usually happens when a laptop has been turned off for a very long time with the battery connected.

IF the battery is not serving its purpose then by all means do get a new battery. It wouldn't be so wonderful if your doing serious work and the battery decided it should fail you in the middle of your work.
