Hi, new to the forums i was just wondering if someone could lead me in the right direction, i havent been able to hear any sound for a long time since someone wiped the whole computer, i have only now decided to try and sort it out, someone told me i need to dowload my mother board drivers for the audio??? the information i have about my motherboard is : Board: SiS-661 Serial Number: UL6N43404711 Bus Clock: 133 megahertz BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 11/05/2004
Hi and welcome to the forum. I am afraid you have not given the forum much to go on. Please download and run CPU-Z. This should give you your motherboard make and model. This is a comletely harmless program which gathers some basic info about your hardware. When the download box comes on, just say yes and save it to your computer. Unzip and run the 'cpuz' executable. Post results and I am sure you will find your answer. Good luck.
It isnt showing my manufacturer however i think it is Foxconn as i have opened up my PC and it says foxconn on the motherboard and also on the sound (thing)?
Hi SIS-661 is the chipset and although it seem to form some of the model name there must be some other information such as - Full model name/number, Audio card or chip, operating system etc. From a quick look at the Foxconn site, it seem like you should have the onboard Realtek (AC97) chip. You can either download the drivers from Foxconn or from Realtek. Hope this helps....
Hmm none of them worked and i dowloaded them all, am i setting them up right after i download them? If not should i just buy a cheap sound card of ebay for example?
I assume you bought your computer from a shop, rather then build it your self? What's the make and model of your PC?
yeh i did and i know it is a q-tech and thats really all i know! and alsso alot of stuff is foxconn on it?
You are not providing enough information I am afraid! Right click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'. Can you see your computer's make and model there?
Right, You will need to run a diagnostic program like 'Fresh Diagnose' or 'Belarc'. These will tell you a lot about your system and I am 99.9% certain you will get a detailed spec of all of your hardware. You can find them here - http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?st=hardware+information&action=s&search=Find+it&lc=1 Please come back with the relevant results. As for audio cards - A cheap card of eBay may not necessarily by better than your chip. Unless you are willing to invest in a decent card like SB etc.
Go back to where you found this information. Just below those specs you will see a button that says 'support information'. Click it and post what you see I've Googled Qtech and I can't find anything relevant

Okay, let's try this from a different angle: Right click my computer and select properties. Select the hardware tab and press the device manager button. The device manager will open. Can you see exclamation marks (or question marks) next to your audio device? Oh and just a thought - the volume control is turned up isn't it Please make sure you've not set 'mute'!
Right the speakers etc are not turned off as in the control panel it says no audio device? there are no question marks or exclamation marks?
