I got paid today and i've already @ 17:14PM spent £278.00 :o

I don't pay bills really, the only thing i pay is: Insurance/Tax/Petrol for car/rent of £80 a month, mobile phone bill (£40 a month). My main drain of money being my cars petrol - I'm unlike most 19 year old males as i don't own a 1.4 Litre 1990 H Reg Ford Fiesta thats got shite body skirts on.

I own a Triumph Spitfire 1.5 Mach II - given to me as rather dead project when i was 17, which myself and my father refurbished (and are still doing). it's had the body repaired - resealed, rewired, new brake pads but it needs a Paint job and the seating and flooring needs to be refurbished or replaced.

It's a wonderful car - but it eats fuel like any 1.6 does : \ i'd never get rid of it, as its my lurrrvvv :D

Problem is, i get paid.. and i want things that i'm GOING to use on a regular basis and that are going to be used enough that it justifies buying it.

My father thinks i've got the right attitude because if i save it - in a year or two it will be gone on something small or big, even if it goes towards a flat it's not going to make a huge difference so i might as well buy stuff that i can PUT in my flat when i move out..?

Where as my mother keeps on at me saying i should save the cash all the time and not go out.. e.t.c !!! ???? :(

Basically this post was brought on by me spending alot of money on a new DVD-RW / Netgear 8 Port Gigabit Switch / New CR2032 3-V batteries / Coaxial cable, rewiring and parts for my TV to have near perfect reception, going out, lots and lots of new books and things that will help me significantly when i go back to college.

I've basically been buying tones of shit that i don't need at the moment, but i'm putting away for when i come back and go to college in september - because i'm not going to be working so i'll be skint so i might as well buy all the stuff i'll need or will have wished i'd brought.. now..

I know when i get back most of my savings will be on my car and the pub, and being studenty.. *laughs* So presumably im doing the right thing? - and yes some things ive brought like the DVD-RW and netgear gigabit 8 port switch / 40xLightScribe CD-R discs e.t.c probably don't need to be brought.. but it will be used alot when i get back AND at the same time it will be a luxury that will be in use..

Basically i think im taking the right decision on buying good quality stuff thats going to last me ALONG time now, instead of buying shit that will last me a few weeks or months..
 
Well if you have the money. But do you save at all? If I got that kind of money, I wouldnt' really go out much, cause I'm not an outgoing person but I'd spend half of it, and put the rest to something i need to save for.
 
Unfortunately i love going out, every month from October 1st -> December 19th i went out pretty much 3-5 times a week (clubbing / pubbing). subsequently it cost me about £40 a night : /
 
Spending money on things that are going to get used and last for awhile is always a good idea...
I've seen people waste hordes of money on things like hockey cards and collectibles that never get used...
as for clubbin'...been there done that...if you're lucky, that'll wear through at about age 24...I started at the age of 14 clubbing and stopped at about your age...but that's because my son was born around then so it was a little earlier than normal...if you're still clubbin' after age 24...go to a clinic
 
lol, i know tones of people over 24 who go clubbing, and i mean TONES..

Over hear in the UK i suspect the Club scene is rather different as literally all ages go clubbing from: 18-35, its great. and i suspect since im hoping to goto uni i will be clubbing past 24 anyway.
 
Over here the club scene is for kids 18-24 or thereabouts...most people ( and there's alot of them here too ) that go clubbing after they get around 28-30 are riff-raff...usually just immature punks or sleasy old men lookin' to boink a kid...

most people over 30 who aren't pediphiles, punks, or alcoholics, go to quieter bars and social clubs like the legion...they don't generally hang around loud clubs where the younger kids go to party.

It's kinda like seeing a bunch of 13 year old's and there's this guy who's over twenty hangin' with them...and you think...hummmm...that's a little odd.
 
True, and i suspect anywhere you go in the world there will always be instances of this, however we also have clubs that are for 21's and over and 25's and over - usually just filled with men and women alike.

The clubs we have here are so varied that there are always clubs suited for a more specific age range, i wasn't suggesting that all ages between 18-35 all goto the same club..

I know from playing Rugby that when we go out (our team is a mix of 18-45 year olds), we all go out and have a laugh and obviously we all go to the same bars / clubs as a group and theres never an age range thats not covered by the places we visit.

You see us English are still very much known for are regular drinking habits - not alcoholism but just the amounts the average brit consumes, is alot more than most other countries - not a good thing, and not boasting.

It's pretty much part of our culture over here, there's no real age limit as to saying: you shouldn't be going to these bars or these places as they are an attraction to the younger generation, nor saying that if you do your a pedo, weirdo or alcoholic.

I've been over too america 3 times, once to LA, NYC and Miami - i suspect that these places probably biast my opinion of the drinking culture compared to the UK as they are rather showbiz and touristy. And i realise you live in CA, however the attitude towards drinking was so different over there, it's very rigid and quite far from relaxed compared to UK drinking.
 
Yep...you're right...every culture is different. If we lived in Yemen we'd all be sitting around smokin' hash and doing herion.
In Egypt I hear...but I don't know if it's true...it's a crime to drink in public.
The work thing is different, I went to alot of work parties and outings and we always stormed the same club.
But I would still find it odd for a guy who's 35 partying with someone 18 in a club...but then, I find it odd when an old guy tries to act hip and listens to rap music, wears baggy pants, a bandana, and walks around with a skateboard.

Saying that though, why shouldn't they go around wearing baggy pants, a bandana and a skateboard?

I think without being offensive you seem slightly "set in your ways", everyone's entitled to be an individual, and everyone's entitled to their opinion - just as you are :) I don't see a problem with someone who is 35 talking or dancing with an 18 year old, big deal, yes there are pervs and dangerous people - women & men, but at the same time, if you stereotype the world in the same way your going to end up with age groups being very much limited to socialisation with younger or older age groups.

It's like saying all old men shouldn't go clubbing, they should sit in a horrible grotty old pub with depressing music, there's nothing wrong with anybody of any age going clubbing or doing stereotypical "teen" or "younger" age group activities.

I don't see why alot of people have to be so close-minded, (not having ago at you).. just ingeneral.

Anyway, it's my thoughts from an individual who is (i'd like to think) from a younger more open minded generation.
