which card should i go for?

Despite being an ATi fanboy, I'd reccommend the 7950GT XXX. Twice the memory (Amount of memory is beginning to matter more and more for those quality textures in the latest video games) and just as fast. I'd still reccommend a 512mb 1900XTX if you come accross one.

I would of gone with the X1950XT if it had 512mb, i thought all the X1950XT's had 512mb of memory, even though memory is not the main thing, the 512mb really benefits games and with even more demanding games coming up, the 768mb on the 8800 series cards will soon become a benefit too, so this time i would go for the Nvidia card, the X1950XT would be the best if it had 512mb i rekon.

I think the Nvidia card would be the best bang for the buk as its going to be close performance to the X1950XT 512mb and its alot cheaper.
 
the 512mb 7950gt xxx or the 768mb 8800gts, taking into account that the gts is an extra £100 and i undertsnad that dx10 games havent been released yet so would it be able to handle them is on my mind. should i just get the 7950gt and then upgrade in like a year or what wuld you do?
 
I think 7950GT, as you never know what ATi is gonna release next year for Direct X10, and i think its gonna beat the 8800GTX, i would wait, the 7950GT will run everyhting current really good anyway. I rekon Nvidia will have the lower the prices of the 8800 series by quite abit when ATi launch the R600.

Id get a 7600gt and then upgrade to a g80 when the prices come down

Erm! no. Buying a 7600GT now is a bad idea. It aint gonna cut the mustard in 6 months or so and would be a bit ov a waste of time.

7950GT should keep you going for a quite a bit.

please try reading what i said, i said that until the prices come down. The prices will come down around march... i mean that isnt a long time, why spend a load of money on a 7950gt when its going to suck in a few months time.
 
Still, i wouldent get a 7600GT.

If he decided to buy an 8800GTX in say march-june, he can sell his 7950GT on ebay and get a good deal. Or go and get a 8800GTX now, saves money in the long run, say in march if prices come down 200 on the 8800GTX, and he has spent 200 now on a 7950GT, he wont really of saved money, sure he can sell his 7950GT. But i am now totally going against what i said earlier. Get the 7950GT, and then wait for what ATi will have to offer with the R600, unless your gonna migrate to linux eventually :P.
 
I would suspect its ok, however i am unsure, its taking power from the +12v rail so it depends how much it takes. I seen that the reccommended for it is a 600w - 800w PSU, tbh i would get an 800w PSU from a good company, more headroom + future upgradability, but then again 1Kw psu is the best for future upgradability.

So what i am saying is, if possible, stretch to an 800W PSU.
