X2 4400+ = Intel ?GHz

i have an amd dual core 4400+, and whenever someone asks me what the speed is, i dont know what to say, does anyone know what conversion this will become, is it around 6GHz total (both cores) or what? I need a conversion and so far i cant find any?!!

errm, well i think that its 2, 2,2ghz cpu's, so that would be 4.4ghz total, but i dont know how it works, i would suspect it could beat any pentium 4 cpu, look at the name, 64, x2, 4400+, and both cores together are 4.4ghz, so i suppose its the same as a 4.4ghz pentium 4.

i dont know how it exatly works though, but if i had that cpu, i would just say, 4.4ghz.

You'd be right willhub :cool:
The X2 4400+ is by default, 2.2Ghz, so in theory with two cores, this would equate to 4.4Ghz.
So mo26, if anyone asks how fast an X2 4400+ is, just say, "Faster than yours :P"
 
its a 4400+, so they have actually practically named it, AMD 64 4.4ghz :p, but 4200+ is also 4.4ghz, so it doesent make sense, but i suppose there is no point makig a x2 that is runing at 2.1ghz x2, i wold of thought those 4400+ cpu's could easilly be bumped up to 4800+ speeds, its only 200mhz faster :p
 
You should always quote the model rating of the CPU, not just the clock speed. Different CPUs can have the same clock speed but have different performance levels because of other factors like cache and architecture. You would say your CPU is a 4400 rated one, and it pwns Intel.
 
thanks guys for the info, and i do tell people, "faster than yours"...
but one thing, i think that the speed is actually faster than 4.4GHz because an FX 57 has a speed of 2.6GHz and that is definately faster than a 2.6GHz intel, and so surely each of my 2.2Ghz cores should be faster that 2.2Ghz intel. So wouldnt that make the overall speed even faster??
 
no, each core is 2.2ghz, 2.2ghz * dual core = 4.4ghz, so it wont be faster than that unless you overclock it.
one 2.2ghz amd 64 is about as good as a 3.8ghz pentiumm 4 in games, i have found pentium 4 3.0ghz's cpu's to be better at multitasking than cpus like amd 64 3500+ and 3700+, so you cpu is effectivly 4.4ghz, 2.2ghz*2, but i think you would need to overclock a petium 4 to about 6ghz to beat it.
an amd athlonn 64 x2 is just 2 cores on one chip, so there the same as a ormal amd 64 ecept they have put 2 cores into one chip i think.
 
Its not quite as simple as that, see although you have 2 2.2GHz cores, that doesn't mean they have exactly the same performance as 2 separate CPUs.

The 4400 rating scheme was originally intended to compare the performance to the original pentium of the same clock speed. Thus, in AMD's words the 4400 is equivelent to a Pentium running at 4.4Ghz. In real life, its faster than that. But to compare it to a 4.4GHz latest Intel CPU may not be as fast. Its more equivelent to a 3.8GHz Extreme Edition or so.

Its hard to explain when there's so many cores, ratings and now Intel's confusing model numbers.

Actually thats a description of Intel's implementation of dual core. AMD's is far more elegant. Instead of just whacking on 2 P4 dies like Intel did and have them share certain resourcces, AMD used a much better method of actually using 2 separate cores with very fast communications between them and each having its own cache. Intel rushed out their dual core CPUs, and so had to sacrifice design time to compete, thus the less elegant and less efficient dual cores.

only in games? but hey, thats all i do anyway, so your saying 2*2.2 is actually 3.8*2 which is 7.6 intel, thats awesome!

but if anyone asked what cpu i had, and i would say, is your a pentium 4? and if they said yes, i would say, well lets just say, mine is superior to yours.

I've read this everywhere. Just because you have two processors, it doesn't mean things will run twice as fast. It's like saying you have 2 cars with 300 hp and it's the equivalent of one car with 600hp. Another car with 310 hp will still beat you (all else being equal). Some programs take advantage of it and some don't, but right now it seems like most don't.
