Xeon vs. Core 2 Duo

Quick question: Is the Xeon processor and it's counterpart Core 2 Duo the same when it comes to gaming?

If I plan on using many programs while gaming, which one is better?

If I plan on having Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator open and working at the same time, which one is better?

Yes. Xeon 3000 series are LGA775 like Core 2's are. The Xeon 5000 series are LGA771, which is incompatible with LGA775. However, the 5000 series are multi-processor ready, so you can use 2 or more (depending on the specific Xeon) in tandem for even more processing power. I believe the Xeon's typically have more cache on the processor.

xeon is for server needs and core 2 duo is for desktop needs

architecture is different but performance and price is important only for you as a multimedia desktop user

i suggest you to buy conroe (core2duo) , multipletasking is way better than xeon at the same price range, but considering single tasking xeon seems getting the lead

for a pc if you wanna buy intel don't hesitate for getting conroe, get it :D
