Hi all, I am considering buying a cheapo laptop off a friend. Its an ACER Travelmate 223x (220 Series) and it is missing some parts, and some just simply needs upgrading.

    Its specs are:

    Intel Mobile Celeron 1.13GHz
128MB SD RAM 133MHz occupying 1 slot, and the other one free. (want to upgrade
20GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard drive (also want to upgrade)
24x CD ROM Drive (Wanting to put in DVD Writer instead)

On ACER's site it says it can take up to 512MB in each RAM slot, 1GB total, should I buy this and will it all be compatible? (sorry I'm a total n00b at upgrading notebooks) I may buy 2 of them if I decide I will be doing more intense multitasking - Micron 512MB PC133 SDRAM SODIMM Laptop Memory Module UK - eBay Memory Upgrades, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 11-Oct-07 10:42:09 BST)

Also, I want a bigger hard drive for it, will this do? - NEW 2.5" 60GB IDE Samsung Laptop Hard Disk Drive - eBay Drives HDD CD DVD, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 15-Oct-07 22:36:59 BST)

And is upgrading the CD ROM Drive to a DVD Writer as easy on a notebook as a normal PC? Acer refers to the CD ROM drive as an "ACER Media Drive" will this make it more difficult for me to change? - New Samsung Notebook Laptop DVD Drive Re-Writer Burner - eBay Drives HDD CD DVD, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 18-Oct-07 12:24:34 BST)

I also want wireless G for it, and want to use the PCMCIA slot, the spec for the slot is "PCCard Support O2Micro OZ6912T-U CardBus Controller
1 Type III or 2 Type II / Type I"
Does this mean generally if I buy any PCMCIA slot wireless G card, it will work?

    Thanks in advance :D

Let me ask you this first: How much is he selling you this laptop for? You could probably buy a faster one online for the amount you want to spend on upgrading it.
