Hello, read the rules, hope I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm also not sure which section to post this issue in, so sorry if I do something wrong.

I ordered several parts from Newegg in Washington state last week and a friend of mine, who is Microsoft certified to assemble PCs, put it together. At first it would not boot. He isolated the issue to the power supply. Switched it with one of his own and the box started. My power supply worked on his PC too. It appeared that my power supply was incompatible with my MoBo even though both were MSI and pretty much made to work together. Then he unplugged all the wires and redid them tried it with my power supply again and it started this time. He installed the OS, I took the box home to New York, and now it won't start again. I redid the wires, same thing he did, but for some reason it's not working. This is a $80 600Watt supply with no adjustable voltage setting because it's automatic. He toyed around with a few suggestions such as buy a new power supply and test it out and he even thought the MoBo could have fried while going through the check-in x-ray at the airport. I would appreciate it if anyone could give a second opinion or maybe take a look at the parts and point out some issue that we're missing. Buying a new supply would be a last resort. Some other minor issues - the LED light won't work because several of the connectors were shipped faulty. Here are the specs:

Video Card: eVGA Geforce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP

    Processor: AMD Athlong 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz Socket AM2

Motherbaord: MSI K9N Platinum Socket AM2 Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra MCP

    Memory: 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit

    PowerSupply: MSI TurboStream MS-4600-020 ATX12V 600W Power Supply-Gaming Edition

Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150

    Thanks in advance.

    Firstly, welcome to the forums!
Secondly, no offense but that doesn't make him any-more qualified than anyone on this forum (I really don't want to sound mean here as that's not my intention) as simply assembling PC's can be done by anyone with half-a-brain and a screwdriver.

    Now...

Have you tried the PC in a 'barebones' configuration? (Just the Motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU)

Try that and see what the results are, also try Memtest86 to see if there's any errors with the RAM.

Hi Tippo, Ur PC has got a very good configuration and the graphics card which u have inside is very power consuming. So 600w PSU should be the startup point for that but there are so many other factors that u need to check before making any decision on the PSU, check [link=http://www.hardwareforums.com/power-supplies-upss/]this link[/link] to verify them...

Thanks for the help guys. I just tried the 'barebones' thing and the same thing happens which is nothing. I also looked up the powr supply listing and am half-tempted to go use my Circuit City Christmas gift card to see if that works. Is there a reason I don't see MSI listed on the roster of good/bad PSU brands? I'm also unclear on what happens if your PSU produces too much voltage for your CPU. Is that what's happening to me? Ceases to power on?

I read that dead/unbootable PC thing and tried the wire trick. My PSU worked. I also bought another PSU, Dynex 550W and this kind of worked. I plug it in halfway and push it to the side at an angle and the case fan light flashes and the fan on the motherboard stutters when it spins but when I push it all the way in, nothing. Has anyone ever encountered this issue?

    Issue is this...
N u know, while trying to save money on PSU u might end up blowing ur whole system. I have told u earlier as well that the graphics card which u have is very power consuming.
