I need help from those of you who are familiar with Linux. I have a choice of dual booting XP with the following: Knoppix Ubuntu Fedora Core Suse The OS must meet the following requirements: MUST be able to play MP3s and WMVs Support TV Card Enable TV OUT support with a FX5200 NVidia graphics card Ideal with WINE
i can't disagree, Ubuntu is based on Debian & a good OS, however i prefer Kubuntu (Kubuntu is Ubuntu but it uses the KDE WM (Window Manager) instead of Gnome, Gnome is used of Ubuntu by default) there are many distros to choose from, to name a few of the most popular: Mandriva PCLinuxOS is based on Mandriva Pioneer is also very good Freespire is also very good for noobs apparently (although i've never tried it myself) a good place to go to find a lot of distros is Distrowatch - they give you a brief description of that distro that said i still personally prefer Kubuntu, but i'm bias cos i started my linux journey with Kubuntu[ot]i started with Kubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 & now my fav OS is Kubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04[/ot] Edit: you could also try VMware and install & try many linux distros, even from within Windows, here's an install guide for VMware, although the install procedure is based linux, however, in think it can easily used on the Windows version of VMware, good luck with your linux journey
Like Donkey said, there is Kubuntu and also Xubuntu. They are largely the same as Ubuntu only with a different desktop environment. Most people seem to use Ubuntu so you will find that help and guides are focused around Ubuntu.
they are exactly the same, but your right about the different WM stuff works on *ubuntu the same as Ubuntu, so why have multiple guides when 1 Ubuntu guide works with all *ubuntu OSs
Xubuntu uses the XFCE desktop environment. It's like a lighter version of GNOME and it's built using GTK+
