This thread sorts the wheat from the chaff. Obviously u never owned a gamecube and played all those fun games. Super monkey ball rocks!!! End of discussion
The initial PS3 shipments will sell out extremely fast as early adopters have no problem shelling out the cash for the latest toys, but come time for Christmas and birthdays when you can buy both a 360 and a Wii for the price of a PS3 I can see most parents skipping it. Sony's is looking like the xbox 1 did when it was launched, behind a competitor and priced quite a bit higher than the competition. As far as Sony is the dominate companny and there's no way they can fall to 2nd or 3rd place look at SEGA & Nintendo right now, they lost their dominance in one product cycle and Sony could easily loose their top spot too. Don't get me wrong I don't want the PS3 to fail but I see alot of market factors working against it at the moment.
I think there are enough hardcore Playstation gamers to keep sony alive throughout PS3's cycle. But i do agree, it does have factors working against it. Hey Xbox made it alive to the next gen, i don't see why sony can't.
I don't concider $600 a big deal, yeah it's a lot of money, and very expensive for a console, but when the 7800GTX launched it was pushing $600 and people still bought that and made it unavailable. The $600 you put toward your PS3 is a one time deal, so I'm not too ripped about it, it's a lot less than you'd pay for a computer and not to sound like a sony marketing agent but the PS3 does offer a lot of computer capabilities as well. The thing that I don't like is that it's basically guarenteed that $60 is the new $50, so games won't come cheap, greatest hits will likely be $30 now and it'll take a while for used games to actually fall down under the $20 mark which is basically when I start buying as spending $60 for every game is going to put you in the whole pretty quick over the months. I hope the Wii's games are cheap as they shouldn't cost nearly as much to develope concidering it uses virtually the same graphics processor as the GameCubes ( MAXCONSOLE - Nintendo Wii - EXCLUSIVE: Wii Know A lot You Don’t- Nintendo Wii Specs Fully Uncovered!!! *Updated* ). Don't get me wrong, I respect the Wii and it's good that nintendo is taking a different stance, a new control scheme that breaks the mold a bit over kick ass graphics. I just hope that a lot of games really use the control scheme to it's full potential rather than making it feel like a gimick or worse, making it more difficult to control games. Personally I think a new startwars games with lightsaber control would be awesome.
Ouch! (for sony) I can just imagine all the blank stares out there on this one. These young kids probably don't even know what a VHS tape looks like. Playstation will continue to be the premier game console for a long time to come. All the consoles have their fans but I think that sony is doing this one right just like the previous gens, with the major exception of the blu-ray fiasco. I still use my original Playstation and love it. Price tag is a big snag but just wait a year. The PS2 still kicks ass.
I kno and im 16. Betamax was the loser in the battle between the VHS tape and the betmax in the late 70s and 80s although betamax was proved better VHS prevailed .... now what were you saying again kenji san? Sry OLD THREAD my bad lol
VHS had the capacity to record longer video, which was the reason that it prevailed over Betamax. A few more episodes of Corrie tempted people more than the higher quality.
I HATE PLAYSTATIONS, my m8 across the road is on his 4th, my other m8 is on his 3rd, another is on his 2nd, i went thru my 1st and neva bought another i got an xbox and it still works today just 3 weeks ago i also got a 360, i have no regrets
Really depends I guess, I can think of 3 people right off the bat that have had their Xbox's die on them. I've had my PS2 for about 2 years and it's never given me even the slightest problem. One of my friends is still on his origional he's had since launch in 2000. It's pretty random really what kind of quality people end up with it would appear.
My ps2 lasted 5 years, i droped it by accident once, still lived on, jammed the DVD Driver with some plastic as i tried to mod it lol, still lived on, my xbox allready has a faulty crappy dvd drive :\ My PS1 lasted since 1996, still worked perfectly when i sold it about 3 months ago and that has LOTS of bumps n falls.
Well let's look at the situation Xbox 360 -Came out early -Has good hardware (i.e. graphics) -Has good price -But it doesn't have any killer game yet Wii: -Cheap -Bad graphics -Good controller -Good games (depends on taste) PS3: -Expensive -Has Blu-ray -No killer game yet -!!!! graphics You see I think that in the end it will be the PS 3 and the Xbox 360 that duke it out for 1st place. These two consoles are meant to last. Also, if you ask a programmer if he wants a DVD, HD-DVD, or Blu-ray he'll prob. say Blu-ray. Furthermore I hate it when people say that the PS 3 is already a failure,... great... how long has it been out? Well you can't expect to make games that fully exploit the PS3 immediately can you? As for the Wii, of course you can! Since there is not much to exploit. As for the controller: go Wii! For multiplayer: go Xbox For next 7+ years of game play: go PS3 And anyway, the Xbox 360 or the PS3 have great options for (e.g. viewing pictures, surfing, plus they have HD-support, …. …. …) So basically you’re buying a cheap computer. EDIT: Right! One more thing, I don't think Sony managers and CEO's would just randomly make a $600 beast, and then hope for the best. Clearly Sony knows what it's doing.
The PS3 will hard a hard time catching up with the 9million + xbox 360 sales. The PS3 will be superior in every way to an Xbox 360, i belive it will have better multiplayer too, not to mention the fact its going to be free aswell at a certain level..
Actually from what I've seen the PS3 isn't going to be what Sony thought it was. Almost all the stores around me have them in stock but are unable to keep up with Wii demand. I've seen quite a few stories saying the same thing around North America so I'm thinking the hype has worn off. I'm not saying it won't be successful but I don't think it's going to dominate the industry like the PS1 & 2 did. For this I wouldn't say the 360 doesn't have a killer app as Gears of War has sold a massive amount of copies, doubting it'll top Halo 3 but I know at Christmas it sold quite a few 360's for MS.
