    Slot for Video card

I'm building a new box and am only going with 1 vid card (XFX 4890). Does it really matter which of the 2 PCI slots I put it in? I've got an ASUS M479XTD EVO board and the manual doesn't say much. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that if you only have one, it's best to put it in the slot...

    CPU fan question

I just purchased the CNPS9700 LED and the cable that comes with it is 3 pin but my M4A79XTD EVO motherboard's 'CPU Fan' is 4 pin. Questions: can I plug the 3 pin into the 4 pin missing one pin (and risk a short) or do I connect it to one of the other 3 pin fan such as the PWR FAN or the...

    Weird mouse problem

Nope, the same thing happens using Express Gate. I can hover the mouse over the Express Gate icons and they will 'glow' but right clicking them does no good. I have to use the keyboard for it to work.

    Weird mouse problem

Yep, checked all the settings. Even switched the buttons around so that the right button did what the left one. No joy on that either. But, the only thing that made me bite on sending it back was the problem was in the BIOS as well. It is definitely weird stuff. Thanks for your help.

    Weird mouse problem

It's a new build but I've tried many other mice with the exact same problem. I can start a program from the desktop only but once it's open, no way is the left button doing it's business. I contacted ASUS and they say it's likely a flaky I/o controller. I find that hard to believe but...

    Weird mouse problem

Built a new machine and things installed just fine. However, none of the mice I try work like they should. The left button doesn't work. I've tried USB and wireless (4 total) and they all work the same. I can only get it to work for icons on the desktop but folders or web...

    Error 1406

Thanks but I've been thru all of that and since I'm using Vista, there's no more recent version of an installer than what's already installed. However, it's possible that a repair of the current installer may help since mine might be broken. I'll give that a try.

    Error 1406

I'm getting this error while trying to install Coreldraw X3 and X4 in Vista Ultimate. It does and did work in Vista before I re-imaged my drive. I have admin rights and priviledges and have cleaned the registry until it's sterile. All the info I've found on the net hasn't worked such as...

Installing programs in a dual boot

Yeah, my thoughts are the same. It seems sensible on one hand but since Vista is a completely different (whatever) OS, I would think it wouldn't work either. I'm not game enough to try it out even with full image backups. :P

Installing programs in a dual boot

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question but will anyway. In a dual XP/Vista boot, with each OS on a different hard drive, can you install the same programs to the same directory so that even so you have to install it twice (once for each OS) you install to the same Program Files folder...

No boot up or shutdown sounds

Thanks mucho Cyberbabe! The TweakUI fix worked right away. I had seen the list of reg fixes and even have them bookmarked but never thought of looking there either. Appreciate the very fast reply. Cheers, Beerman

No boot up or shutdown sounds

I can't figure out why my newly built system won't play startup or shutdown sounds. I've tried changing the sound scheme in the control panel and even creating a new one but it makes no difference. All other sounds work perfect. It's not a big deal, just one of those little gnats that bug me...

    Lets Talk Vista

If you are thinking of making the jump to Vista, a plain upgrade is of no use. Do a format c and a fresh install. You'll be more happy that you did.

Removing half a Vista Install - Odd situation, please help.

VistaBootPRO - Go PRO with Microsoft Windows Vista Boot Manager May work. You should be able to set XP as the main boot OS thus making it easier to remove Vista.
