I get get dvds to play thru media player classic , but not the more up to date media player !! All very strange.,and I've been using dvd+rw .

Hi guys, I recently had to install a new hard drive ( after the last one died, wouldn't even boot in safe mde) I've installed xp pro, and now it wont let me play a dvd it just keeps saying " Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings...

I've just tried installing a new hdd and can't get it to show under " My computer". I've checked it in Control panel- System and it shows there, but not under " my computer". I've tried it with both IDE cables . No joy, any help would be appreciated

If I re-install xp on my computer , will it wipe everything else off the Hard Drive ?
