Windows Keeps Recovering From A Serious Error

I sometimes get a message upon logging into Windows saying "Windows has just recovered from a serious error" or words to that effect. I am given a "click here to view details" option with the following two files mentioned:

C:\ DOCUME~1\ Matthew\ LOCALS~1\ Temp\ WERa473.dir00\ Mini010207-01.dmp

and

C:\ DOCUME~1\ Matthew\ LOCALS~1\ Temp\ WERa473.dir00\ sysdata.xml

The only strange thing I have noticed is that neither of the files are present in each destination (whats more, the WERa473.dir00 folder is non existent also). No luck via the search option in Windows either.

I have searched the web for a few days now and have found nothing. Does anybody have any idea what this is all about and perhaps what the cause/s of these errors are?
 
A virus or a trojan..... i think!
Delete all the files from your Temp folder and Run AV Nd Adware scan in SafeMode.
 
It must be crashing just as its about to shutdown.
Like Karinislove said, check for virus and stuff first and go from there.
 
Could also be filesystem corruption and/or registry corruption. It's probably best to just backup important data, reformat, then reinstall from scratch. Unfortunately, in the Windows world this is something you should do on a fairly regular basis. My understanding is that Microsoft themselves reformat their own PCs every 6 months.
 
I have checked for viruses and spyware along with clearing my temp folder (all in safe mode as requested) and have had no detections at all.

Like I said, this doesnt happen all the time, and when it does, it only happens as soon as I log on to Windows. I cant really tell what the problem is either as Windows and other programs run fine.

Does anybody else actually have these files in your Documents and Settings directory as mentioned in my first post on the Windows (XP Pro SP2) boot drive?

I am convinced that it may be some kind of Windows corruption (how does it become corrupt in the first place anyway???), however I must have only reformatted/reinstalled Windows a couple of months ago.

As long as nothing more is installed nd u havent used internet after new installation, I am with u.

Btw, which program you are using to clear Viruses?
