Hi i'm trying to install this video card.. Newegg.com - XFX Geforce 6800XT PVT42EUDE3 Video Card - Retail It plugged right into the PCI Express slot, but something on the cover of the video card says that I need to plug in a power dongle for sufficient power. I don't think the card came with a 'power dongle'. From what i've read, I guess you're supposed to plug this thing into the back of a hard drive for extra power. However, my hard drive doesn't have any extra spots for additional plugs. I don't know what to do. Do I have to get a different hard drive? Here's the hard drive i'm using Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40GB 3.5" IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM
Hi Kwikness, You're right, it needs extra power in order to work properly, but not from the hard drive. Your power supply should have an extra cable available for powering a pci-e graphics card, didn't a power adapter cable come with your graphics card? The cable that goes into the back of your graphics card looks should look like this; If such a cable isn't available, your graphics card might have a similar adapter cable supplied with it like below; Good luck, Marcus_X (Please note that this is a dual pci-e adapter cable, it doesn't necessarily have to be a dual adapter cable)
Doh.. I overlooked a space for a 4 pin molex cord. One more question. In the manual t says "the power dongle from the hard drive is required, the power dongle from the floppy is not sufficient" Does it really matter which I use? The power cord from my hard drive doesn't reach to the vid card.
