xp failing to load after new build

hi all,
ur help will be greatly appreciated.i'm a noob at building pc's so i thought i'd give it a go & get into it.i've fitted a gigabyte socket am2 ga-55plus-sg3 mobo with an amd 64 3500 cpu with 1gb ddr533 ddr2 memory & an akasa 400watt psu alongside a maxtor 120gb hdd.I'm 100% sure all is connected properly & all devices are listed in the bios/cmos.i formatted the hdd & proceeded to load win xp home edition sp2,about half way through instal i kept getting the software your installing for this hardware ie.
1.battery
2.generic volume
3.standard enhanced pci to usb host controller
4.primary ide
5.secondary ide
has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatability with win xp,
it basically listed eveything on the mobo aswell as hdd & fdd.
the first time i clicked continue to load on all & windows installed right up until the last 5 mins & then it said it has stopped to prevent system failure & or damage.when i click on the window it lists all of the above and that it failed to revert back to ms drivers.
i'm completely stumped, i appreciate that this was probably not the best combo for a noob to start with but we all start somewhere especially with the mobo being relatively new to market. any suggestions??????????

I'm getting them during the instal.
I've eventually managed to instal xp but it aint just right,some dll files haven't installed and for some reason when i go into device manager a whole stack of drivers are missing.I've had to instal a network card from another pc to get access to net as the ones on mobo aint working and now when i log onto MS UPDATE SITE i keep getting the error your time is out of sync to validate cert.I've tried all the recomended MS fixs to no avail.any ideas??????:eek:
 
This sounds like you took the harddrive from an OEM pc such as Emachines or HP... if that is the case, it wont work and you need a new harddrive.
 
There's no good logic behind that. Unless the drive is failing, there's absolutely no reason why it would not work. It has nothing to do with where the drive came from, eMachines, Dell, hell, even a Mac.

Let me clarify my position: have you done a clean install of Windows--ie: formatting the hard drive and installing a fresh copy of Windows on that? If not, that's very likely where the problem lies. If not, and even then, it wouldn't hurt, try running Memtest for a few hours to see if you're coming up with errors. Download the appropriate file to run it from a floppy or bootable CD and let it run for at least 1 hour, although 3-8 would be a good burn-in.

Yep i formatted the drive and installed a fresh copy of win xp,I've sorted the time sync problem, but i'm having problems loading my anti virus and zone alarm pro,keeps reverting to missing dll files,getting there slowly,all help appreciated.:x: I'll try the memtest for a good few hours.i still have drivers missing

Actually mate i think youll find that it does have something to do with whether it came from an OEM machine. With oem machines you cant completely get rid of the OEM windows copy therefore when trying to install a new copy it wont work. Also what morty has said about it saying some components not being valid that sounds to me that an OEM machine has had the config changed... if you change the config within an OEM machine it will not work and give a list of whats not ment to be appart of the system.

Perhaps my knowledge is ignorant but when i had my emachines pc i was not able to put another copy of windows on due to the fact that there was coding embedded into the drive that was unremoveable, please correct me if im wrong though, providing proof of course :P.

Edit. Something to support what i thought? was correct information. If it was possible to fully get rid of this coding within an OEM harddrive then it would be easy to buy the machine, install a new copy of windows and wella you have a fully upgradable pc.

the news isn't good,I ran the memtest and left it for 4hrs & it passed all tests with no errors,problem is,since the test it won't boot up.I've noticed that when the initial screen loads up with the cpu,memory data etc that 50% of the time the proccessor data isn't there & it continually goes through rebooting and no beep.I can load in safe mode and thats it,nothing seems to work 100%.could there be a compatability issue with maxtor hdd as i noticed a few people on ebuyer commenting on how their maxtor drive wouldn't operate with some am2 mobos ???? although this makes no sense to me.I've tried 2 maxtor drives that i have both reformatted and tried clean instals aswell as both not loading,it's got me stumped for now. any thoughts????:(
 
About that question between Big_B and Journeyman ... My experience with my laptop suggests that what Journeyman says about there being something "embedded" on the HD is correct. I had a thread about it here. I had tried to do a full format on my laptop HD to remove the Windows & other software that's installed there from the factory but I couldn't. The recovery data remains. I can always do a full recover to restore my computer to how it was fresh from the store -- and I can do this right off the hard drive without any CD's. Meaning that the recovery data is still stored somewhere on the HD despite the fact that I had supposedly fully formatted it...

Anyway, we haven't even cleared up whether this question is relevant or not. So let's do that. Morty, did your HD come from another computer like an emachines, dell, etc.?
 
This is just a quick question... when you were formatting... did you get a cyclic redundancy check error and are you using real MS media or a burned copy of the OS? Or is this a restore disc from a computer you're trying to upgrade?

EDIT: I just looked your board up on MS... its not on the HCL and that's likely where the problem lies. You said that when you load up you have "a whole stack of drivers are missing". I'm just assuming here, but did you yank this mobo from from an OEM machine... google doesn't turn up anything on the model you listed. Sounds to me like you need to spend some time pulling the drivers for this board... if you can find them. If you have the disc for the board or the restore disc/OEM OS that you're installing, you might be able to get them from there.

Cheers for confirming that DaRuSsIaMaN, im glad i stuck to my guns :). And yes please clarify if the harddrive was actually out of an OEM machine??

This question sounds like its tied in with mine, perhaps morty has pulled varies different OEM machine components and put them together.

I don't know if it was such a confirmation.

Keep in mind that hard drive manufacturers operate with 1000MB=1GB, while Microsoft goes with the standard 1024MB=1GB. Additionally, formatting, particularly with NTFS, will take additional space---although you will loose some capacity with formatting anyway.

I have seen this on some IBM boxes that my high school had. Ultimately, they had to delete the partitions and then create them. The paritioning scheme, in that case, was to isolate the Windows OS from the programs, which was fine until you install enough programs. Even if you install programs on a separate partition, data is written on the OS partition. Install enough programs in a limited space, and you get into trouble.
 
hi all,
all components are new with the exception of two hdd,they were bought about 12 and 18 months ago from ebuyer.both have been reformatted and fresh instals of a legal copy of win xp that i've used 1 or 2 times before now as i've built new rather than use old mobo and cpu,ddr etc.
i have a suspicion that the ddr2 ram may be faulty or corrupt due to the inconsistancy of the errors and problems so i should have that tomorrow and we'll see.thanxxxxx.:doh:
 
:D Hi all,
it's been an interesting few days,my new ram stick was faulty aswell as a few drivers being corrupt,it just goes to show its the little things that cause the biggest problems aswell as a few network bus numerator drivers showing as loaded but not actually doing anything,just finished resolving those issues and pc is running smoothly.
Thanks for all your input, you never stop learning.
