I looking to get new ram, two sticks of 1gb, but i dont have any idea how the CAS latency and timings affect the performance of RAM. if someone could explain how this works it would be very helpful.thx

    The lower, the better :)

For example, a stick of DDR400 PC3200 RAM operating at 3.0 3-6-6-8 won't be anything near as good as a stick that can operate at 2.0 2-3-3-6.

    Happy shopping!

Also remember that the CMD rate has more impact than all of the other latencies... combined.

Despite the hype there is surrounding this topic CAS latency, in real world applications makes very little difference. Lower is better yes but don't kill yourself over it, if the price is very close yeah go lower but in apps like games you won't even notice it.
