    Hello, all.

    Yesterday, I upgraded from Mandriva 2006 to 2007. Now when I download programs, they do no automatically list themselves in the applications menu on the lefthand side of the desktop so that I can just click on them and run them from there. I can run them direct from the command line of course, but this is a little impractical so I have sort of found a workaround - I've gone to the root folder, navigated to usr/bin for applications and created a desktop short cut for the desired program and it works fine.

    I'm using the software repository script from the sticky (see link below). I'm wondering if that script is essentially for Mandriva 2006 and not 2007, so it may cause problems when adding new programs?

    As long as you choose Mandriva 2007 community from easyURPMI then you shouldn't have any problems. I'm not really sure what's causing your problem, sorry :(.

    I'm not sure of the source of your problem but you can use kappfinder to add programs to the menu easily.

    Code:
    $ kappfinder
    Let it scan your system and it will come back with a list of programs that it recognizes. That will get you started at least and then you can add the others manually with the k menu editor (right click on menu and select 'edit menu').

    Right, guys.

    I've since scrapped the repositories that I had for Mandriva 2006 and setup the Mandriva 2007 repositories via urpmi (as suggested by Addis). Now programs are dowloaded and can be accessed from the desktop applications menu! I guess the Mandriva 2006 script for repositories that I used from the 'sticky' are incompatible with 2007.

    Good suggestion, kenji san - thanks! I managed to add Opera to the applications menu using 'kappfinder', but Firefox, Kaffeine & Thunderbird did not show-up under the kappfinder scan.

    Never mind, I'm running those from the desktop short cuts I created earlier.

    Thanks for your help.

    David.
