I accidentally invertedly (wrong colors) inserted the power cord (that thing with the 4 pins) of the harddisk then the harddisk cannot be recognized anymore, the pc doesn't seem to get power but when I am dettaching the power cord from the harddisk then the pc is getting some power and I can see something in the monitor, any ideas on how can I solve this problem? It's a Samsung 40gb harddisk, it's board can be easily separated from the disk itself, does it mean I may have a chance of fixing it by replacing it's board? Please..... Thanks!
Welcome to hardwareforums oiledor  I have no idea how you managed to get the Molex plug in the wrong way round (there only meant to fit one way by design), but hey, congratulations! Due to the way the wires are arranged on a Molex connector, if you managed to connect it up back to front the hard drive would have received 12v on the 6v rail, 6v on the 12v rail but the ground rails would have been connected correctly! unfortunately, there is a very high chance that the circuitry was damaged If you can find another hard drive of the same make & model then yes, in theory you can just switch the boards around!
This is the hd (http://www.samsung.com/Products/Har...s/HardDiskDrive_SpinPointPSeries_SP0411N.asp)... It can boot with other harddisks and if I unplug that molex from that problematic hd, buying a new harddisk is not a problem but that was my primary harddisk and all my important files are there... I am just hoping now that I could somehow retrieve some files from it if it can't be fixed...
@ Impy Try now.... SAMSUNG's Digital World - SpinPoint P Series | SP0411N Edit: 4gt to write...Only that Bracket at the end needed to remove......
what happens when you remove the wrongly inserted molex connector and reinsert it the correct way around ?[ot]you may have fried the electronic part of the HDD try replacing the PCB on the HDD (replace with the PCB of an identical HDD) as the data is probably still on the platters[/ot]
The pc won't boot, it can't get power, the processor fan rotates for a few seconds then dies, but when I am removing the molex the pc boots...
that suggest the PSU may have gone to the big PC in the sky (PSU malfunction) could you try a decent branded PSU ?[OT]the only way i can think of to get your data is swapping the PCB with a identical HDD[/ot]anyway, back to the problem in hand, does the PC POST (with or without the HDD connected) BTW: are the fans in the PSU operating ?
