So I get a 32bit copy of vista business straight from microsoft and install it on a fresh partition thanks to partition magic 8. Everything seems ok. I was excited to get a new os and a free one at that. So, I'm listening to some downloaded music I got a few years back and I'm five or ten minutes into it when the music just stops. It just stopped completely, the volume was down and it was paused. I tried to push play and it would pause again. This was using the newest version of mp. I thought that it might have been microsoft just being microsoft by putting out a buggy os. After a minute or two I realized that this is probably one of microsofts new DRM assaults. I thought to myself, they really have some balls for being so bold and thinking they can just do this. I download winamp and none of my music across all my drives will play. I turn my tv turner on and my tv won't play sound either. As a last test I go into windows sound and try to play some simple windows sounds, no luck. So I'm thinking, screw it, I'll just wait till someone hacks around it. I've tried to play just about every kind of sound I can with no luck. As I go to shut it down I hear the shutdown theme that vista has and just think to myself, wow they truly are bold. I got my full copy a few days before the official release and have not really used it much and especially not much with stuff like this popping out.
This aint an "illigal" copy is it? Try Uninstalling your Sound Drivers and Re-Installing them. You did go itno the Sound in the Task Bar and click on Mixer did you? if not check it, everything might be turned down in Mixer except the Windows Sounds. I play all my music and i never had a problem like this so i highly doubt it is due to DRM or anything like that.
Whats illegal? I downloaded a copy of a song that I own a few years back cause it was easier than ripping it. I haven't reinstalled the drivers yet and can't say if its DRM or something else cause the sound worked fine, then cut off 5 mins into music, then played the shutdown theme when I turned it off and then when it came back on sound was working again. Its seems like vista is selective with audio because it worked, then stopped and then worked when it was time to shutdown.
Then make sure that you have turned off your onboard sound from BIOS coz it can cause clash between the drivers of two.
