Hello, I stumbled across this forum, and hope you guys can help me solve the problem i have been having. i am having an issue with my workgroup at home. I have a laptop that i had previously networked with my office computer using a workgroup. Now something appears to be blocking my office computer. I don't have any software firewalls installed on either of the computers for testing purposes. I also have win XP firewall disabled on both computers. From my office computer i am able to ping the laptop, and i can connect to it by IP address, but not computer name. On the flip side i cannot ping my office computer from my laptop or connect to it. If i boot the office computer in safe mode with networking i can ping it. I thought this would mean that there was some process or service running that was blocking my connection so i made a note of all running services and processes when i booted in safe mode. After i made a note of all of them, i booted windows as usual and killed the processes and services that were not running in safe mode. This didn't help, i was still unable to ping the office computer. Both of my computers are running Windows XP, one has home and the other has pro. The laptop connects to the router wireless, while the office computer is connected via network cable. If you need more information, please let me know. At this point i am kind of out of ideas. I am in no way a networking expert, but i know enough to get me by. The only changes i can remember making was trying to put zone alarm on my office PC, but once i started having problems i uninstalled it. Windows XP says there is no firewall installed. So anyone got any ideas? Thanks!
