I recently tried installing Battlefield Vietnam, and got some errors about punk buster along the way. When I tried to play online, I got kicked because apperently it was not installed. So I tried uninstalling PunkBuster from both the add\remove menu and the Battlefield Vietnam Setup. I get the error... An installation support file 'C:\DOCUME~1\IAMNOT~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\{E35B3C63-E958-4E31-A178-95D22024109A}\_IsUser.dll" could not be installed. Access is denied. ...so now PunkBuster won't re-install, because it is checked when I try to install/remove it from the Battlefield Vietnam Setup, and when I try to uninstall it, I get the error and PunkBuster is not removed. I uninstalled Battlefield Vietnam, deleted all directories I know are linked to it, deleted everything in the registry I know is linked to it, and messed around in the directory that the error gave me... still not working. BTW... I am sure my machine has no viruses/spyware/adware, and I have installed Battlefield Vietnam with PunkBuster on it before and it worked, but I re-formated it, re-installed windows, etc...
Have you downloaded any later versions of PunkBuster from the internet and tried installing that seperately to BFV? For example, don't tick PunkBuster in BFV installation, and instead, download the latest version from a site somewhere and install it on its own. Alternatively, do a system restore back to the day before you installed BFV and try installing it all again. Also, what was the reason you reformatted in the first place? Hope this helps, Mike
Thanx for help, but I can't find any site that has the PunkBuster installer for Vietnam, and I can't system restore because for some reason its been turned offf Oh, and the reason I re-formated was because I was replacing my old 40GB hard drive with two 160GB in RAID 0.
Have you tried accessing system restore from safemode? Should be in the usually directory of Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore regards, Mike
Here's something interesting you could try. It applies to the game FEAR but you might be able to find a config or .ini files in the BFV directory. Hope this helps If it isn't solved by the end of my work shift I'll install BFV when I get home and have a look myself and see if I can find something.
Thanx for all the help and advice, I got it worked out. I ran a registry cleaner yesterday, and when I turned on my pc today when I came back home I was able to re-install!
