For roughly the same price i could get a Nvidia 8800 320Mb or a Nvidia 7950 512Mb. Which one do i choose? My operating system is Windows Xp and I have 2Gb of ram.
Yes, it's not about the MB, its about the transistors and pipelines that the GPU has. Alough the more MB you have the more features like anti-aliasing it can handle.
Yea the 8800 may have DX10 support, most people buy then for DX9 as there is no gaurantee that the 8800 series will run DX10 games to a good level. Also, Pipelines are not the same anymore as far as I can tell due to the different architecture there not pipelines, its shader units etc... but I guess the 8800 has the equivilant to 46 or 48 pipelines. If I were you I wouldent buy the 8800 if you havent yet, wait sometime this month of next the R600 series (X2900XT) from ATi is been released, and so far it seems preety promising, on another forum it has been tested but due to NDA they cant publish too much information but it seems on par with an 8800GTX but it is unknown yet.
