Widows XP Crash Problem HELP!

    Okay heres the problem,

    So this computer has xp home.. sp2. no problems at all.. only 2 yrs old.. protected from viruses and other crap from norton and spysweeper. I go to turn on the computer the other day and I get the windows start menu. so no problem start windows with last config.. shuts off and reboots? um ok? start windows in safe mode? nope same things reboots. and so on.. every menu choice will restart my computer.. any ideas how to get my system back? please help!!

    Windows will have problems like that periodically due to it's core design. Things like the registry, its relatively poor filesystem, and insignificant security mean that Windows shouldn't be expected to have a long installation lifespan. In other words, you probably have some registry or filesystem corruption which is causing your issue.

    You can always run Windows scandisk, chkdsk, fsck etc, but these programs are known to cause more problems then they resolve. The same thing goes for the registry; it's basically an ugly bag of snakes which is easy to break and hard to repair. The most practical thing would be to backup what you can and reformat.
