Hi, I am interested in buying a new graphics card for my computer. I was looking at 7950 GT (512 MB) and 8800 GTS (320MB). I have come across various companies such as BFG, ASUS, EVGA, XFX, Foxconn, PNY and so on. Can someone please tell me which out of these are like the top three or four companies. I find 8600 GTS prices on par with 7950 GT but 8600 memory interface is 128 bit compared to 256 bit for 7950 GT, making me assume that 7950 GT out performs 8600 GTS. Is my assumption valid?? Also I was looking at basic 8800 GTS (320 MB) card considering there are two variants of 8800 GTS (320 MB) differing in Memory Clock . Is this basic 8800 GTS better than 7950 GT (512MB) ?? Thanks for your advice, Prateek
The 8 Series GeForce cards are a bit different in design than the 7 series, so if you base it simply on specs alone, the 7 series seems better. It's quite common that a new series mid-range card, in this case the 8600 family, is on par with the high-end cards from the previous generation. The 8800's are roughly equal to or better than any 7900 in SLI or any Radeon X1950 or X1900 card in Crossfire. Check out some reviews, and you'll see what I mean.
EVGA or XFX are safe brand names. Personally, I wouldn't go with foxxconn. What video applications did you plan on running?
Hey Sparks, Its intended for lots of games, regular applications, movies and also will install a TV tuner card in the near future. So like a complete entertainment box. Prateek
