    Hi all,
First of all here are my specs:

    intel E6600 2.40 ghz core 2
    Abit AB9 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
    GeIL 2GB 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
    320GB barracuda hard drive
    nvidia gforce 6800 gs 256MB
raidmax ninja case with 500w psu

okay i bought some hardware and i put everything together but i forgot one thing and that was the standoffs for the motherboard i tried to boot up my pc but i didint get anything up on my monitor apart from something like no video device, all the 3fans were spinning including the cpu fan and the lights on the motherboard were on then 10 seconds later the pc shut down and i couldn't get anything. Could this have been because i used no standoffs? or is there anything else that could have caused this? :(

    Welcome to harwdareforums jase69

The best way to find out would be to refit the motherboard using the standoff's, if it works then congrats, if it still doesn't work then return it to the supplier.

Somebody once told me that 5% of motherboards are DOA (Dead on Arrival), but then again 63.9% of statistics are made up on the spot :p

I assume by standoff's you mean the little 'posts' that have a screw thread on one end and a hole for a screw on the other (I've never known quite what to call them!)

Yea, without those will short things out pretty quickly. Your lucky you didn't damage anything.
