I don't get how is it that I see ads from dating sites that say, for example, "Meet single Mesa women." (Mesa is the city where I live) By that I don't mean that I'm at a dating site when I see this. I don't go to dating sites ... the ads appear on completely unrelated sites, like a site containing song lyrics. But the ad is advertising a dating site. And somehow it knows where I live and that I'm a male. How does this happen? Cookies, right? But don't I have to fill out some kind of form somewhere about my sex and address?? It's not like I have that info written into my browser or something.

Hi. I get those too, but mine are personalised to my location.

They always say meet horny girls in Halesowen or Dudley. Pretty sure its down to your IP address. And as for knowing your gender, I assume they think because you are on a certain site you must be male!

Well they got it wrong with me because I'm a girl and I'm not looking for horny girls near me....tramps!

Most likely explanation is that its based on your IP address. Do a whois on an IP (might need to do a reverse ip lookup first, not sure) and you'll get some information like the location.

Well, i have seen adverts for a site called adultfriendfinder whilst looking through a completely unrelated site, might have been a site starting with T...and ending with orrentz. They tell me that all these fine ladies are looking for no strings fun in my town of Scunthorpe.
Obviously i know this to be incorrect as there aren't any fine ladies here. Anyway as i also have registered for stuff in York (from when i lived there) i sometimes, whilst purusing other unrelated sites find the same pictures of these ladies, but now says they come from York.
Now they are either like the village bike, or they just use the same 8 photo's for anyone logging in from anywhere in the UK.
Which leads to just alot of frustrated blokes searching for women who don't actually exsist in their local town.

heh heh heh yeah i wonder how those sites like match.com or whatever actually exist. I've never seen an ad that talks about men looking for women, so it seems to me like 95% of the users of those sites would be desperate blokes. And the rest would be desperate women who look nothing remotely like the fine ladies they use in the ads. Because why would most of the fine ladies need to bother looking online for "stringless fun"?? They could get that anywhere, any time, if that's all they want :p
