I got Halo 3 a few days ago, five to be exact, and I have a myriad of problems with it, this is gonna be a rant so I didn't know if this should be in the War Zone or here, if it's wrong I'm sure a mod or admin will move it.

Anyway, onto my problems with the game. The storyline was terrible to say the least, but then again the whole series has never appealed to me, nothing about the story gripped me, I didn't feel anything for any of the characters whatever happened to them.

I finished the game on Legendary on the second day of my having it, no kidding, got all the skulls too, that was really disappointing, the game was not only short (9 levels) but far too easy, even on the hardest setting. The tactics you use to beat the first few enemies will pretty much do you throughout the rest of the game.

My main complaint about this game is how frustrating the firefights are, I try to do a firefight properly, to say I stay at mid-range, pop in and out of cover, use some grenades now and then, if the enemy gets too close for comfort, fall back and let my shield recharge. Now normally in a game this would be a perfect tactic, but oh no, not in Halo 3. I was stuck on a particular part for several hours while trying to do the Meta Game mode with a few of the skulls enabled, which made it a little more challenging. I was firing away using my usual tactic only to get creamed each time, I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong, this was even on Normal mode rather than Legendary. Surely this couldn't be harder just because of the options the skulls give when activated. Anyway, after a bit of time of dying and reloading the nearest checkpoint (at the beginning of this battle) I decided just to give up trying, instead of my usual tactic I loaded up my dual SMGs and ran like crazy head-first into the midst of enemies, firing wildly. When my first SMG clip was gone I dropped to using a single SMG and melee attacking the enemies I could. To my surprise I found that I was living longer, eventually I was killed, which came as no surprise really, but it got me wondering.

I loaded the checkpoint again, but instead of my SMGs I used my Assault Rifle, did the same tactic, charged in head first, this time I adopted a different tactic, run up to them shooting wildly, as soon as their shield went down melee them and they're dead. I did this for a few minutes and what do you know? I kill them all with little problem.

I thought for sure it was some kind of fluke and if I tried it again I would be torn to pieces, but I decided to try anyway. To my amazement I lived throughout the rest of the level, not dying once, just using this new tactic of charging in, firing and then punching them. I finished the level but I was left with a sour taste in my mouth, when did games lose the skill that was once required to play them? I thought the days of Doom were gone where running around blindly actually did more for you than using tactics, I guess I was wrong.

It's not even just the single-player that suffers from this, it's multiplayer too, the best tactic is not to work as a team, it's to go out and kill everyone who isn't on your team and leave your team-mates behind. Somehow that kind of defeats the meaning of 'team' for me, I much preffered playing Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2 multiplayer, or Rainbow Six: Vegas. Halo 3 just seems totally mindless and skill-less, both in single player and multiplayer.

I always hated the halo series, really didn't get what everyone was making such a fuss about.

Just finished COD4, really quite short single player but what there was of it was amazing 0_0

The best weapon in the Halo series was the little magnum type handgun with zoom. That together with melee attack was indeed the best tactic to kill just about anyone. I enjoyed Halo 1, put up with Halo 2 as the link-up multiplayer was pretty awesome, and then played Halo 3 and thought it were only a smoother version of 2.
Bungie wants to take its head out of the clouds and stop thinking that the Halo series was the best FPS out there.
And as for the 10/10 score that 'Edge' gave Halo 3..................

They toned down a lot of weapons in Halo 3, the Magnum had a slower rate of fire and lost the scope, the Needler was more powerful but couldn't be dual-wielded.

The whole series was a huge disappointment as far as I'm concerned if I'm honest, I can't wait to play CoD4 or Timeshift.

Sometimes though, skill-less FPS's just seem to work. Take, Resistance; Fall of Man on the PS3. On multiplayer over the network the one hit kill servers work in its favour. Anybody can pawn anybody so it keeps the game refreshingly exciting.

Agreed, a game like that can even the playing field.

What I don't like is Halo 3's matchmaking system, sure it's a good thing if you want to go out alone and face people who're about the same skill level as you, but I often play in a party with my clan, the leader of which is a high rank. Which means our opponents are picked based on his rank, so we're facing people near HIS skill level, not our own, now for most of the clan this isn't a problem, but seeing as I've only just had this game for a week, to suddenly throw me in the deep end like that is a little unfair to say the least. Don't get me wrong, I can hold my own against the higher ranks well enough, but I would like to be pitted against people closer to my own skill level. Perhaps I should just forgo the clan matches for a while, get my skill up (and possibly the last achievements) going solo in ranked, then join up with my clan again.
