I have been running SLI perfectly on this system for some time now.

    mobo: asus k8n SLI-premium
    cards: PNY 7800gt's

I noticed lower performance in my games. I reformated the machine and installed the newest forceware and i noticed that i am not getting the sli visual indicator and the option IS NOT available in my nvidia control panel.

Here is the kicker though. This motherboard handles single and SLI setups automatically. the computer will not post if i try to run a singe card setup, with either card. in order to get a successful post i must have both cards in. Ive tried everything driver and bios related.

anyone got any advice on this situation?

ALSO windows is only showing one entry of my cards in the control panel. I'm hoping its not a hardware issue

yeah, to be honest, this sounds like there is an issue somewhere in the motherboard, probably the north or south bridge chipsets are bad. Actually, you didn't say specifically, but did you try installing a new chipset driver, as that might work. Otherwise, it sounds like you have some hardware issues, sorry.
