Hello Putting a new system togther and when I get all the software on there I would like to create an image (ideally a bootable CD or DVD) of the hard disc. Just to make it easy in the future to get back to a clean situation. I do my data backups simply by copying across to an attached USB2 Ext Drive and I'm happy with that. Can anyone recommend good, easy to use software for creating the drive image thanks
I cant recommend these by my own experience as I've never actually used them but Norton Ghost (Symantec), Drive Image (PowerQuest) and True Image (Acronis) all seem to be well respected by the industry as a whole.
Paragon Partition Manager is another. I think its safe to say most people here would say to avoid partition magic. A lot of people have grief with that one. To back up the partition you'd need another partition or hard drive. If your two hard drives are the same make have a look for the manufacturer tools. Its probably possible to use a compression tool to get it all into one archive file. That way you can get it onto removable media.
they are both owned by Symantec, & Symantec have a bad habit of rewriting software written by someone else, they can't leave it alone, they always think they can "improve" it @Symantec: if it works leave it alone[ot]this is my personal opinion[/ot] although i haven't bought anything from Acronis since i stopped using XP, but Acronis products were great & i assume they still are, unless they've being bought by Symantec :agree:
