Can't go in normal mode

Hi friends,

I have a system which wont go in normal mode. It goes into the blue background screen(not the blue screen of death) but no icons there. When I try to shut down th system the explorer.exe complains. I thought it was corrupted and expanded it from the installation disk...same result.
I did "chkdsk /p" and same result.
When I go in save mode I have no problem at all. But nothing seems to fix the normal mode.

Any idea???

PD: I tried to repair the OS but the install program it wont present that option to me...only reinstall.

Seeing as it boots fine in safe mode it seems likely to be a driver problem however I don't quite understand the result you are getting when you boot normally

So does your desktop background come up?

From the info you've given a virus scan seems a good idea as does scanning for other nasties.

You might also want to try the "SFC /scannow" (that might just be one 'n' I'm not sure) command from the run box.

I did a virus check and came clean. I did hijackthis and came fine. I will try the scf.

Yes,its the background. It takes years to show the icons and then years to respond to any click or key.

Have you recently installed any new programs that may be affecting startup?

Have you updated or installed any drivers recently?

Before it stopped booting in normal mode, were you experiencing any startup errors?

Aside from the virus scan that was already mentioned, you are going to want to scan for spyware also using a program such as adaware or spybot.

Secondly, it may have something to do with a startup item. When you boot into safe mode go to the start menu, and then to run. Type in 'msconfig' When it comes up, go to startup and disable all. Reboot and see if it boots into normal mode ok. If this does not help, you are ok to re-enable whatever you want under startup, but if it boots fine you are going to have to narrow it down to which startup item is affecting you.

*edit* P.S. When booting to normal mode, press control + alt + delete and see if there are any abnormal processes running. Also, you should note how many are running. The amount of processes ideally is in the low thirties. If you have much more than this, you should start ending processes that you know may recognize as not necessary, such as instant messengers, Antivirus', google apps, adobe stuff, and any abnormally named processes that are a blurt of numbers and letters (ie: kdk34jd)

You wont believe this guys. I tried everything but restoring the system as far as 15 days ago....and IT WORKED!!!!!
