ok i've got my new router, it's here and it cost just over £55 from Comzign i am happy with the router, but, the delivery date was missed by 3 working days (late)

i am trying to learn stuff, but i'm finding it very difficult

is there anywhere on the net i can read to make the configuration easier, so far i've being going through the manual & typing the config into kate

any help would be very much appreciated, i have tried to teach myself & configure it but every time i try i quickly become overwhelmed with stuff i know or think i know

Wait, are you telling me that the only way to configure this router is to edit a text file? If so, I hate to break it to you, but you got swindled. I would look and see if there is a web administration interface for it. To access it try typing in what your computer says its primary gateway is into a web browser.

It is also possible that I am completely misunderstanding you, in which case correct me and clarify.

no, you misunderstand, creating & editing a text file was my way to remember / help myself to alter the correct settings of the router
yes there is a web interface accessible from the browser by typing an ip
i have, but i was overwhelmed with with stuff i think i should know, but don't
    please see above

Take screenshots, those would be immensely helpful.

Well here's a page I used before to try to learn about routers. Perhaps it will help you make some sense of the configuration. (I'm not sure how much you already know) There was also a longer and more useful Tom's Hardware article that I had bookmarked. But I just tried the bookmark, and apparently that page doesn't exist anymore =(.

thankies, i'm actually waiting to enable me to configure my new router while i can research the settings on the net, but, i may already have a spare NIC kicking about somewhere, so, i'm waiting while monday and i'll ask my carer to look for 1, if she can't find 1 i'll have to buy a new NIC
