Hi,can anyone who has built on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard please explain to me the correct connections I must use if I am fitting a Sata HHD and a Sata DVD. I have been using the 40 pin connection for these two items, now I want to change to Sata and I find the motherboard user guide a little confusing. I'm not interested at the moment in the RAID installations, just the plain computer, as you can tell by my enquires I am a starter in these buildups

personally i've never used an ASUS board or SATA
i presume the 40 pin connection is an IDE connection, IDE & SATA are totally incompatible with each other, SATA uses a 7 pin connection to a SATA controller (built into your motherboard)

you have 3 SATA2 connection on your board

the pic below shows the SATA data connections, if you look closely at the pic, you'll se SATA1, 2 & 3, traditionally you should use SATA1 for your HDD & SATA2 for your DVD

and obviosly you will need SATA connectors to power the SATA drives too

BTW: are you upgrading your existing system by replacing the mobo, CPU, HDD & DVD ?
or is this the first build for you ?

you may also need an ATX 2.2 PSU, but if you have one, it will have SATA HDD power connections

here is how to connect SATA data & power

the SATA data cables should have come with your mobo, only connect 1 SATA device to 1 SATA port

anything else i can help with ?
