Hello, my first post here so I hope you will all be a bit forgiving at the amount of info I’m going to ask now and in the future. I am looking at building my own PC and I have sourced most of my components off a website called Misco.co.uk Anyhow, here goes: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 socket 775 processor Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2 socket LGA775 motherboard PNY GeForce 8500GT 512Mb PCI-Express graphics card PNY 1GB DDR2 533MHz PC4300 (2 of them) WD 250GB SATA2/300 7200RPM 16MB (I already have an external 500gb one as well) Hiper 630W 85% efficient Power Supply Unit LITEON 20X DVDRW BLACK BARE INC SOFTWARE LiteOn DVD-ROM black bare Drive Enlight 3.5 Internal card reader With vat and delivery it all comes to £432.04 Am I being a bit too ambitious with this? I am not going to be able to afford to do this again for a long time so have I future proofed myself for 3-4years or have I gone totally over the top? The only thing I am not too sure about is the psu. I have heard many people say get a decent one. Is this a decent one? Thanks for your time, Nick
I have been building for a little while, from what I can tell the system you have outline will perform really well for the price you are paying. There are new processors out in the quad core range, the new 9xxx series. I will be building a new computer with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, which will be better then the Q6600 you have mentioned, but the you can overclock that processor really well even with stock cooling. The Power supply will be more the sufficient as you system will not really require a huge amount of wattage, you only have one graphics card and its an nVidia 8500 series which are not particularly hungry for power anyway. It looks like a good computer to build first time, relatively good parts of the technology stage we are in and for a decent price. I have never used Misco.co.uk so I do not know what there customer service is like if any of the components have a fault of some kind, but that is normally highly unlikely but it can happen.
