Os install problem

i have packard bell notebook, when i bought, came with windows vista and recovery cd. now i want to install win xp.. but when i try i get error that hard disk haven't on this computer and i try to install linux but i got same error... what i can do?

We need a little more info about this notebook ?? How new is this notebook ?
You will need XP setup disk, Plus all the drivers for your Notebook. Have you installed any OS's before ? Will need the model of the notebook..
