Hi Guys Yes i did read Stickys post about it but i am afraid it was totally lost on me sorry So my question is i would like to upgrade to ddr3 ram hopfully this is what i need ; Corsair Memory 4GB (2X2GB KIT) DDR3 1600MHZ 240PIN UNBUFFERED dabs.com - Corsair Memory 4GB (2X2GB KIT) DDR3 1600MHZ 240PIN UNBUFFERED (TW3X4G1600C9DHX) which is at a great price of £151 Also there is : 4GB Corsair Twin3X DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 4GB Corsair Twin3X DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz XMS3 DHX (7-7-7-20) Dual Channel kit at a much higher price of £330.88 of course i know you get what you pay for and all that and the latter would proberly be the better pair to get as i supect it's all in the latencies, the cheaper one being 9-9-9-24 or double my money for 7-7-7-20 however iv'e know idea what this would mean to my system. I will be going to a Vista x64 when i upgrade so what are the pros&cons of this decision ? Many Thanks
I don't know a great deal about memory myself, but I understand that your motherboard has to support DDR3 memory, you can't just add some to any motherboard.
Yea mate my mobo can support ddr2&ddr3 just not at the same time bud i dont know if its really worth upgrading and whether i get any benefit from it.
Haha, I'm still living in the past, i have a mobo that only supports ddr1, and since they don't make ddr1 anymore they are actually more expensive than if i were to buy ddr2 or ddr3.
You're living in the past?? I've finally managed to convince my boss to upgrade his 80286 (12Mhz) processor computers and 486DX (66Mhz)! They worked fine, but we need to be able to rely on them, and considering their age, it would be hard to get spare parts if they did break. I've also swapped his serial network for wireless Much speedier, and more reliable.
The first set has higher latencies than the second one. If you're overclocking this could be something to consider. If not, the cheaper stuff should be more than adequate. It's not that it's not being made, but that there's less demand for it. It's more expensive to make smaller batches of the stuff, therefore adding to the price.

There is really a few other different timings. CPC- tRC - tRRD - tRFC - tRW - tRTW - tRWT - tWTR - tREF - tWCL. Think there is a few more than that. Most bios just dont give you the option to change most.
