Hi peoples, i've got a asus M2N-e(one with heat pipe) and i've got a AMD AM2 2.6ghz dual core, a little while ago i PROPERLY assembled everything to finally get my new build running, but it boots up goes in to a setup then it sais "cpu fan to slow or not connected" or then it turns off and the cpu and heat pipe are hotter then samantha fox, HELP PLEASE, wanna know if it is safe just to connect a regular 3-pin chassis fan to the cpu fan socket to fool the system into thinking it has a cpu and just run it like that or will this send my cpu into a meltdown
Well, if the cooling mechanisms are that hot right off the bat, double check them before you start anything up again. Most BIOSes with option to monitor the CPU fan can have that option disabled, and should be found under the PC Health section. I would check to see what kind of temps you're getting, because if the temps really are high, you've got a problem.
Maybe you could open the PC case and then startup the system to see wether the FAN is actually "slow" or not working at all as it is trying to state.
uh, all i have to cool the cpu is the heatpip , no fan, but asus told me(cough) that it dos'nt need a cpu fan
well, I don't wand to say I'm smarter or anything, but what if you'd buy a cheap-ass fan and put it on. just to see the difference, because, exuse me and with all due respect, I would like to doubt that a CPU with two cores running at 2.0ghz each would be cool enough just by having a few heatpipes on. Maybe this config relies on you having really good case ventilation system, which would take a part of the heat from the heatpipes/radiators to cool the system effectively enough... also, why should the mobo have a cpu fan connector, anyway. did asus talk about *this* certain cpu, that it wouldn't need any fans?
