Hello :p I'm new at this forum.

I decided to move from tech-forums.net because they were unable to help me with this problem that I can't fix :(

Here is a copy of my original post:

Before I tell you the problem I'm gonna say that I have read and read tons of forums and surf the web a LOT in search of an answer. So if some can help me with it would really be my savior :D

This is the problem. My computer is like in SLOW MOTION ._. It's really really slow.

The odd thing is that it happend over night.

Ok... This may take some time to explain but I think I better do it the right way and start from the begining, since I noticed the problem and also tell you the things I did in order to fix it, but saddly didn't work. :(

    I had just bought:

An Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Processor.
    An Intel Mother Board DG35EC.
4 Kingston dimm of 1GB of Ram.
    A 512Mb nVidia 8500 video card.
    A 17" LCD Monitor.
A new case with a 400W Power Supply and also a great cooling fan system and the PC is completly clean and free of dust or humidity.

Also I have this components from my old Pc:

160 GB HD IDE, I don't remember the brand.
And a DVD-RW drive, also IDE.
(both on the same cord, since the motherboard only has 1 IDE port, HD master)

I had the Pc for over 2 months now... When bought the new components and built the new Pc I migrate the HD from the old one to the new one.

It used to have 3 partitions:

One was for Windows XP Home Edition SP2, 25 Gb.
The second partition was for My Documents (in case I had to reformat C:\), 40 Gb.
And the third one was for Downloads and media files storage, 85 Gb or so.

Something that I souldn't have done but I did was to "Repair" the Windows partition instead of reformatting and reinstalling the operating system, since this sometimes can cause problems. I also installed all the Drivers that came with my MB and Graphics card.

Eigther way the Pc worked beautifully !!! I was so trilled :love_at_first: (good times :( ) Windows started really really fast, all the StartUp software opened in seconds, I could surf the web with no problems at all, sound and graphics were great.

I could even play Dark Messiah and Half Life II, my favorite games on really high video settings, something that I couldn't do with my old Pc.

    Life was good :p

But 2 weeks ago wile I was using my Pc it started to run really really slow... This wasn't after a restart of the Pc or anything, I had been using the Pc for some 3-4 hours now. So I restart the Pc and it took a LOT to run Windows, like 10 times more than normal.

When Windows was starting I got afraid because the music from the loging on sounded as slow as the Pc, each note sounded really long, as in slow motion and also like in cuts.

It took a lot too to start the StartUp programs and the problem continued all over the system, when I maximize and minimize windows, also when I start programs and everything !!!

All sound is choppy and slow, Media Player sound and Operative System sounds and also Msn and games sounds.

The slow sound is not consistant but it comes and goes when I trigger events like double clicking and etc...

Also if I have more than one program open... the performance of the Pc goes down.

The odd part is that when I check the Task Manager the CPU usage is under 10 or 15% and the RAM is way clear. But yet the Pc is lagging like crazy.

So I decided to reformat the partition in order to fix the problem and didn't work.

Guys, pls !!! I don't know what else to do.

Here's a list of the things that I have done:

+ Reformat the partition 3 times in NTFS format and Install Windows XP Home Edition SP2, problem still not gone, lagging from the first startup.

+ After that I tried to defragment each partition in order to speed up the access time to the HD, still no inprovement.

+ Used RedCure to fix registry errors and some Hard Drive Testing software, that only showed me that my accessing time was near the lowest time registred.

+ Reformat ALL the Hard Drive in NTFS using a Low Level Format Tool and doing diferent size partitions and this time I installed the Windows XP Professional Edition SP2, because I read that the "Repair" I did on the WinXP earlier may have caused some inconsistency on the HD.

This did make the lagging frequency stop a little but didn't fix it... also is still WAY more slower than my old Pc and takes the same long time to boot up the system.

+ Installed the Service Pack 3 from Microsoft to my Win XP and defragment the HD again. Also failed to fix the problem.

+ And at last I came across a forum with a similar problem that was fixed by removing the two 1Gb dimms from a Asus MB (also with 775 socket) and leaving just one. But to me it did nothing when I removed the three 1Gb Dimms from my board...

    - My next move will be to install Windows XP 64 bit Edition SP2, but the 32 bit XP sould be working !!! So I'm gonna wait to read some comments before I do this.

I don't know what else to do. I really hope someone can guide me on how to fix this problem !!!

Thank you very much in advance for and post and also I apologize for my bad english :D

Ok... Now as you can see my Pc is clean as a whistle in spyware and viruses stuff.

Less than a week since last reformat, antivirus and antispy since the 1st minute of the reformat and now is fresh from the Spyware Removal Guide By Osiris: Updated 8/18/2008, did it last night.

My HiJackThis report show nothing to remove ._.

Guys... I'm think this rules out any software issue as the cause of the symptoms, pls..

I'm desperate to get this problem fixed

What kind of problem persist even after several reformats?

    ._.

    I guess a hardware problem...

Is there a techy out there that has seen anything like this before?

My initial guess would be a problem with your HDD, which is causing eveything to take a long time to load. This is backed up by the fact that CPU usage is low.

First of all I would try a Linux Live CD, such as 'Damn Small Linux'. See if that lags. It shouldn't access your HDD, so if it doesn't lag, we know it's the HDD!

Secondly - I haven't read your post in great detail, so you may have mentioned this, but try downloading SpeedFan and get the temperatures of the PC. If it is overheating, then it may throttle the CPU to keep things cool, although I would expect it to warn you and then shutdown really...

    BTW: Welcome to the forums!

Thnx for replying to my post !!! :D

Damm... I ran the SpeedUp and I think my system is not as cool as I tought...

    Check it:

I also noticed that when I open programs.. As Paint in this case, my CPU usage goed to 100% for a couple of seconds... ._.

    Any comments?

Meanwhile I'm gonna try the Linux thing... To check the HDD.

Thnx again for any comments :) They are appreciated :D

I would assume that System is actually CPU. That's very high! Mine is attached.

I would remove the fan/heatsink on the CPU, apply remove all thermal paste and re-apply, then put the heatsink back on (make sure it's properly on!!).

P.S - If you do remove the fan, make sure to be gentle! 3 times I've now removed one and the CPU come out stuck to the bottom! Luckily no pins were bent, but there's a chance they could do!

[OT]Just noticed this in your post
Your english is better than most english peoples![/OT]

I really don't know... I hope that 83Cº System is not my processor ._. It's weird... I let the PC rest for 3 hours to cool down, boot and run that tool and I showed 82Cº... And the heatsink is nice and cool... So I don't think is over heating... I hope the processor is the "CPU" label...

Ok... some news now... I took my PC to the "tech guys" (god... If u saw this money greedy microsoft lovers bast...), where I bougth my components to apply my warranty... I didn't wanted to do that before because I need my PC for college, but I had no choice ._.

I will keep posting any progress because it was really frustrating searching and searching the web for an answer to this problem and finding nothing.

So, I wanna leave a little trail to follow for future victims :D

My main suspicion is problems with my oldie HDD, and my second guess is the MB...

I hope is the MB :D (my HDD's warranty has expire)

    It's definitely a hardware problem x_x

I would also have assumed that the "CPU" label was the processor, although these programmes can get it wrong, and the CPU is the most likely to overheat out of anything I'd say.

Did you ever try the Linux Live CD?

    Ok, Guys !!! :D

Good news :p So I took my Pc to apply my warranty, and they checked it all... Or so they say... I know they check all the components that I didn't buy there.

The cause of this problems wasn't the Hard Drive Disc, the Processor or the DVR-RW they said... And that problably was the Mother Board.

So they change my MB for a new one, and return the Pc to me with NO Operating System -_- !!! I hate them... Because it was a illegal copy of Windows XP, and it wasn't.

Anyway, I reinstall XP and it everything was fine :D And then... On next reboot... The problem was there again !!! ._.

After that... My brother took my old pc and bought a new HD, because he needed the Pc and it was fine except that I have it's original PATA or IDE HD.

    Guess, what?

He buys a SATA disk so he can't connect it to that old Mother Board... So we chance Hard Drives and install XP on both and now both compurers are fine !!! :D

I guess it was a compatibility issue or an error with the port on my MB, beacuse the old HD works fine on the old Pc, and now that the old HD is away from the new Pc so is the problem.

Well, I posted this so I don't leave you guys hanging and I hope this help othe ppl with this rare issue.

Thax to all that replyed, U were of great help.

Wow, you've been through alot. I hope the sucker runs good from now on, cause I'd beat my computer with a bat if it pulled something like that.
