Ok, so i just bought a SATA SSD and and plugged it in and tried to install XP on it. I'm able to format it and start copying the install files, and it freezes at around 1 or 2% every time. I'm also not able to copy files onto in XP. I returned the drive and got a new one, and it does the same thing. I have a sata hard drive enclosure and the ssd works fine on that, i'm able to copy files and everything at ~10MB/s write speed. The manual to the ssd says it's compatible with sata 1.5Gb/s, so i guess my question is, is it another bad SSD? Bad SATA controller on the motherboard? I can plug a regular platter SATA drive into the motherboard and it works fine. thanks for your help
I actually had a lot of trouble with this too. You need to make sure that the version of windows you are using has SP1 or higher on it already. Then you also need to slipstream your XP CD with the SATA install drivers. How To: Slipstream your XP installation | Maximum PC
