Hi folks For some time now, I have only been getting sound from one speaker. This occurs regardless of using different speakers or the monitor speakers. I've checked through to try and update device drivers and also device manager settings, but everything there appears to be in order. No problems are shown. I've looked at the sound effects manager (AC97 Audio Control Panel) and again everything seems to be set correctly. Doing a speaker test proves that only one of the speakers is working. Does anyone have any ideas? Note: Acer Aspire SA80-Z970 desktop PC running XP with 3ghz Celeron D processor and on board sound. I also have Ubuntu Linux running on a separate partition on the hard disk and this kernel has the same problem. Regards Marty
I have run across this problem in the past, it seems to be a bad connection on the sound plugin.. I had to buy a PCI sound card to fix my problem..
I'm having a similar problem and didn't want to start a new topic. The speakers in question are Phillips 2.1 speakers multimedia speakers, pic below: Most of the time only one speaker works but if i wiggle the jack around in the sound card the other one comes back on and plays fine for a while, but next time i turn them on or disturb the jack it wont work again. Both speakers go into a single jack that goes in the back of the sub, then the from the sub via the volume control into my pc in a single jack. So both speakers are working but something in the wiring is suspect,so any idea how i can fix this?
Yeah, I had a similar thing happen too. I got a little bit of sound from my other speaker, but it was always unbalanced: the right speaker always emitted more sound than the left. It started happening after I owned my old PCI SB 512 sound card for a long time, probly like 5 years. So eventually I just bought a new sound card, and the issue disappeared. So I figured it happened because my sound card was dying. But maybe Ghostman is correct, maybe it's only a deteriorated connection in the plug-in area, not the card itself? He probably knows better hehe.
